The Hobbit House

TGIF….I’ve seen shirts around here stating that this stands for Thank God I‘m Filipino.  Tonight, however, was all about celebrating the weekend!  I had a wonderful time experiencing Filipino nightlife.

My good friend Rico took me to the Manila Bay Malate area.  We walked around for a bit, seeing the different types of establishments, which included bars, clubs, kinky cakes (let your imagination run on that one), boutique stores, a casino and more.  A good place to go bar hopping.

After wandering around for a bit, we squeezed into a tricycle car to take us to the next bar.  Those vehicles are tiny and not wide enough for my American-sized derriere and a companion, but we managed to make it work, laughing the entire way.

We ended up at The Hobbit House, a bar staffed entirely by midgets! It’s owned an operated by an expat, who was inspired by Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings.  Surprising, the place was deserted for a Friday night, but a great blues band was playing and i got to try a new beer and some candy-like cuisine.

The bar had a ton of imports to choose from.  It reminded me of the Winking Lizard with a much more unique atmosphere.  I choose to try a local beer, Red Horse, by San Miguel Brewing.  It was 80 or 90 Php (Philippine Pesos) which is less than $2!  Good beer at a phenomenal price.

Rico ordered a fun appetizer for us called Chicken Lollipops.  Served with ketchup for dipping, they look exactly like their name suggests.
