Snack Time

I can’t think of any foods i’ve been craving that i’m unable to get here in Manila.  The one indulgence i can’t seem to shake is diet coke.  The U.S. is the only place i’ve seen it marketed as “diet” coke.  Everywhere else in the world it’s called coke light.  Maybe it’s a snarky comment in relation to the US and it’s large overweight population.  Coke light does not taste the same as diet coke.  At this point, however, i’ve gotten so used to the taste, that i have a feeling i’ll think diet coke tastes weird when i return home.

Before i left i did think, “how will i ever be able to survive without Chipotle?”  However, i hadn’t even thought of those large burritos until i ate at a mexican restaurant this past weekend.

There have been plenty of foods, however, that i am slowly becoming addicted to here, and am now debating what portion of my luggage can be devoted to bringing them home.  My favorite so far has been the Nagaray cracker nuts.  Boy are they tasty!  It’s like a peanut inside a cracker shell.

Today i experienced a local candy called “Crack-Ups”.  Eric, who is always bringing fun things for me, brought them over to my cube for me to try.  After a bit of struggle i opened the package and poured the contents into my mouth.  It was like pop rocks.  They fizzed loudly as i held open my mouth to hear the popping noises.

Another favorite of mine has been the dried mangos, which i’m told i can get Stateside.  I have tried so many mango concoctions, most in shake or liquid form, and all delicious.

  1. Have you had any Otap (I think that is what they are called). They are a cinnamon pastry thing. Arnel gave me a box and they are very good! (A little messy as the floor of the Text team cubes found out …)

    • i don’t think so. I’ll have to ask about them.
